FIRMWARE UPDATE MANUAL

VOICE ANNOUNCEMENT BOARD EV-200

1. FIRMWARE VERSION
The EV-200 Voice Announcement Board installed
with firmware of Ver. 3.00 or later can use CF cards EV-200 Board
in Windows format. However, EV-200 boards with
firmware earlier than Ver.3.00 can also be made
compatible with the Windows-formatted cards by
updating the firmware to the latest version.
The EV-200 boards of Ver.3.00 or later can play
back the CF cards recorded using the EV-200 Data
Edit Software Program.

3. UPDATING VERSION
To update the EV-200 firmware, install the EV-200 board inside the VX-2000 or VM-2000.
When two EV-200 boards are already installed in the VX-2000, remove one in the update procedure.
For mounting or removing the EV-200, refer to the instruction manual supplied with the VX-2000 or VM-2000.

Important

Turn off the VX-2000 or VM-2000 before mounting or removing the EV-200.

Failure to do so may cause the EV-200 breakdown.

Step 1. Insert the CF card into the PC card slot.

Step 2. Format the CF card by way of Windows Explorer.

Notes

. To format the card, select "FAT*" from the File System pull-down menu.
The EV-200 unit will not recognize the card formatted using "NTFS" or "FAT32.
"
* Automatically performs FAT12 or FAT16 format according to the card capacity.
. Execute "Normal" formatting without selecting "Quick" formatting.
. Perform formatting in the Windows environment without using command prompts. The EV-200 unit's
firmware version may not be correctly updated if formatted by way of the command prompts.
Step 3. Copy the firmware file to the CF card.

Note

Do not change the filename. If the filename differs, the EV-200's firmware version update cannot be
correctly performed.

Step 4. Switch OFF the power supply to the EV-200 unit.

Notes

. When the EV-200 is installed in the VM-2000, the EV-200's power remains still on even when
turning the VM-2000's power switch to OFF. To shut down the EV-200's power, unplug the VM2000's power cord.
. When the EV-200 is installed in the VX-2000, refer to the VX-2000 instruction manual for turning off
the EV-200.
Step 5. Make a memo of the position of the DIP switches on the EV-200 board, then set the switch as shown
in the figure below.

Note

Return the DIP switch to the original position after firmware update completion.

Tip
When two EV-200 boards are already installed in
the VX-2000, remove the one at the upper position.

Step 6. Insert the CF card onto which the firmware file was written in Step 3 into the EV-200 board and switch

ON the power to the EV-200.*

* When the EV-200 is not installed in the VX-2000 or VM-2000, install it.
The EV-200's firmware update begins.
During the update, the CPU status indicator (upper LED), located on the left side of the EV-200 unit's
CF card slot, flashes at 0.5-second intervals, while the Card access indicator (lower LED) flashes
irregularly.

Firmware rewrite is completed in about 8 C 10 minutes.
After completion, the CPU status indicator (upper LED) shows the following depending on the pre-
rewrite firmware versions:

Pre-rewrite firmware Ver. 1.00: Flashes at 1-second intervals
Ver. 2.00: Extinguishes
The card access indicator (lower LED) extinguishes in both versions.

Step 7. After completion of firmware rewrite, switch OFF the power to the EV-200 board, and remove the CF
card from the EV-200. Then return the DIP switch set in Step 5 to its previous position.
Windows-formatted CF cards edited using the EV-200 Data Edit Software Program can now be used
with the EV-200 board.
